Frederick M. "Fred" Walsh

Quincy, Frederick M. “Fred” Walsh, age 74, a lifelong Quincy resident, died peacefully, Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family.

Fred was born in Quincy to the late Frederick J. and Betty G. (Lansill) Walsh. He was raised in North Quincy and was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1961.

He was employed in the newspaper industry for fifty years. He began his career with the former Record American and at the time of his retirement worked in the composing room at the Boston Herald. He was a member of the Boston Pressman’s Union, Local 3.

Fred was an avid Boston sports fan, enjoyed following politics and his membership and friends at the Adams Heights Men’s Club in Quincy.

Fred was dedicated to his family, especially to his cherished grandchildren, actively supporting all their activities, accomplishments and most of all, gathering with them for family barbecues.

Beloved husband for fifty-five years of Elaine M. (Varnerin) Walsh.

Devoted father of Dr. Karen M. Reilly and her husband Peter of Milton, Mark F. Walsh and his wife Susan of Dracut, and Linda A. Walsh and Brian Morrell of Quincy.

Loving grandfather of Devon, Christopher and Austin Reilly, Ethan, Emma and Owen Walsh.

Dear brother of Robert Walsh and his wife Terry of Weymouth. Fred is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Tuesday, October 17th at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home on Monday from 4 – 7 p.m. Interment Braintree Cemetery.

For those who wish, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to Brigham and Women’s Hospital to support the Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Fund, BWH Development Office, 116 Huntington Avenue, Third Floor, Boston, MA 02116.
