Martin J. Mullin, Jr.

Quincy, Martin J. Mullin, Jr., age 70, a longtime Quincy resident, died peacefully, Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Martin was born in Boston to the late Martin J. and Rita A. (Sarnowski) Mullin, Sr. He was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1966 where he was a member of the cross country track team. He later graduated from the former Boston State College.

He was employed as a special needs teacher at the Saint Coletta’s Day School in Braintree for over thirty years.

Marty was a member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard and proudly served active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, serving with the 803rd Medical Group out of Boston.

He enjoyed running and was an avid Boston sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Marty was dedicated to his family and especially to his wife and children, actively supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved husband for thirty-three years of Marie (Ghiringhelli) Mullin.

Devoted father of Peter M. Mullin and his wife Duygu of Cambridge, James P. Mullin of Quincy and Jonathan A. Mullin of Quincy.

Brother of Katherine Kirby and her husband David of Quincy, the late Dorothy Pavidis and her husband Thomas of Harwich. Marty is also survived by three nieces and one nephew.

Brother-in-law of Virginia Ghiringhelli of Dedham.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy Saturday, December 23rd at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 227 Sea Street, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home Friday 4 – 7 p.m. Interment with Military Honors at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.

My condolences to all of Marty's family. He was a good friend growing up in Merrymount. He never gave up trying to get me to play sports. Although I did not see him since then, it was good that facebook gave us a way to connect these last few years. As we say here in Israel, may his memory always be a blessing.
