Mary (Eden) Magee

Quincy, Mary (Eden) Magee, age 99, a longtime Quincy resident, died peacefully, Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Stone Rehabilitation and Senior Living Center in Newton Upper Falls, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born in Charlestown to the late Thomas and Mary (McDevitt) Eden. She was raised and educated in Boston and was a graduate of Cathedral High School and Regis College, Class of 1939. She had lived in Quincy for most of her life with her beloved husband, Thomas, where they raised their four children, Mary, Paul, Stephen, and Thomas.

She was unusual for her era in having had a devoted career spanning many years.  She advanced to being the director of the hematology lab at the former Quincy City Hospital, and later served as the chief technician at South Shore Hematology and Oncology of Quincy. She trained and mentored many lab technicians and physicians over the course of her career. A textbook of hematology was dedicated to her in honor of her extraordinary contributions.

Mary was a longtime active parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Quincy, serving as a Eucharistic Minister.

Mary’s greatest love, however, was her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Magee.

Devoted mother of Mary Landrigan and her husband Philip, M.D. of Mamaroneck, New York, Paul J. Magee and his wife Patricia of Rotonda West, Florida, Thomas C. Magee and his wife DJ of Dorchester, and the late Stephen T. Magee.

Loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and their spouses (Mary Landrigan-Ossar and Jacob, Christopher Landrigan and Clare, Elizabeth Savir and Raphael, Matthew Magee, Michael Magee and Kerry, Robyn LaGuardia and Joe, Kelly Anastasio and Clark, Richard Smith and Christine), and fourteen great grandchildren.

Mary was the mother-in-law of Lana Wolff of Canton and Antoinette Magee of Weymouth.

Sister of the late Thomas C. Eden. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Thursday, August 31st at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 227 Sea Street, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 – 7 p.m. Interment Pine Hill Cemetery, West Quincy.

Such an accomplished women way ahead of her time. I can see the impact she had on her devoted son Thomas who was dedicated to her though out her later years. I know she was loved and cared for by her loving family and is now in the hands of god.
