Shirley M. (Wood) Sutherland

 Quincy, Shirley M. (Wood) Sutherland, age 82, of Quincy, formerly of South Boston, died peacefully, Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Hancock Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born in Boston, raised in South Boston and was a graduate of South Boston High School. She had lived in Quincy for forty-three years.

She had been employed for the Stop and Shop Company in the Quincy corporate office for many years. As a young woman, Shirley had attended hairdressing school.

She enjoyed arts and crafts and was talented at crocheting.

Shirley was dedicated to her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She actively supported their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved wife of the late Robert A. Sutherland.

Devoted mother of Diana M. Halley and her husband Robert of Malden and Ronald D. Critcher of Quincy.

Loving grandmother of Eric Halley, Stephanie Funderburg and her husband Keon and Jennifer Critcher.

Cherished great grandmother of Hudson, Ava and Ariana.

Step-mother of Robert A. Sutherland, Jr., John Sutherland and Judith Sweeney all of Framingham.

Dear sister of Gerald Wood of Shrewsbury, Carol Allen of Florida, Marilyn McLaughlin of Quincy, Lorraine McDevitt of Weymouth, Kenneth Wood of Quincy, Janis Casey of Braintree, the late Paul Wood, and the late Ronald Wood. Shirley is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Tuesday, July 11th at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home on Monday 5 – 8 p.m. Interment at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
