Mariano Marinelli

Quincy, Mariano Marinelli, age 85, a longtime resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Sunday, December 10, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mariano was born, raised and educated in Anversa degli Abruzzi, Italy. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 and settled in Quincy, where he lived for over sixty years. He was also a summer resident of Yarmouth for over twenty years.

Mariano was employed as tailor at Saks Fifth Avenue in Boston for fourteen years. Prior to that, he was employed for over twenty-five years for the former Alla Company of Boston.

He enjoyed working around his house and was talented with tools. Mariano also enjoyed his time on Cape Cod, playing the Italian card game “scopa” and drinking espresso. He was a longtime parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Church in Quincy.

Most of all, Mariano was dedicated to his family, proudly supporting the activities and accomplishments of his grandchildren.

Beloved husband for fifty-seven years of Mary (Poillucci) Marinelli.

Devoted father of Debra R. Cardarelli and her husband Pompeo of Weymouth, John V. Marinelli and his wife Annie of Norwell.

Loving grandfather of Andrew D. Cardarelli and his wife Angelina, Matthew D. Cardarelli and his wife Lauren, all of Weymouth, Mark A. Marinelli of Quincy, and David J. Marinelli of Pembroke.

Dear brother of Venanzio Marinelli and his wife Elvira of Revere.

Son of the late Venanzio and Maria (Stracco) Marinelli and step-son of the late Dominico Marinelli.

Mariano is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Wednesday, December 13th  at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home on Tuesday 4 – 8 p.m. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
