Paul G. Johnson, Captain, Quincy Fire Dept., Ret.

Quincy, Paul G. Johnson, Captain, Quincy Fire Department, Retired, age 84, a lifelong Quincy resident, died peacefully, Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Seasons Hospice in Milton, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born in Quincy to the late George and Helen (Vetterline) Johnson. He was raised in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy High School. He enjoyed spending many winters in Lauderdale by the Sea in Florida where he developed many new friendships.

He was appointed to the Quincy Fire Department on March 27, 1965. He was promoted to Lieutenant on July 1, 1974 and Captain on September 30, 1978.  During his thirty year career, Paul served throughout the City and was assigned to Engine 2 at the time of his retirement on December 30, 1995.

Paul was a Korean War veteran having served as a Machinist Mate 3/c in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Rooks DD 804. He was a member of the Cyril P. Morrisette American Legion Post #294 and the Quincy Lodge of Elks.

He enjoyed golfing.

Paul was dedicated to his family, especially his three grandchildren, supporting all their activities and accomplishments.

Beloved husband of the late Joanne M. (Barnes) Johnson.

Devoted father of Kevin G. Johnson, Barry M. Johnson, Karen M. Conneely all of Quincy and the late Brian P. Johnson.

Loving grandfather of Andrew, Joseph and Seamus.

Companion of Celeste Colman of Weymouth.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Thursday, Sept. 14th at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 – 7 p.m. Interment with Military Honors at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
