Dorothy E. (Sullivan) Burke

Brockton, Dorothy E. (Sullivan) Burke, age 96, of Brockton, formerly of Weymouth, died peacefully, Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Saint Joseph’s Manor Health Care in Brockton. 

Dorothy was born in Weymouth to the late Edward and Mabel L. (Deloria) Sullivan. She was raised in Weymouth and was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1940.  She had lived in Brockton for fifty-five years, previously in Weymouth.  She also enjoyed winters in Briny Breezes, Florida for many years.

She was employed as an electrical engineer with the Electroswitch Company in Weymouth for fifteen years and had been retired many years.

Dorothy was dedicated to her family and especially to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, supporting all their activities and accomplishments.

Beloved wife of the late Joseph E. Burke, Sr.

Devoted mother of Sandra M. Piantoni and her late husband Stephen of Brockton, the late Joseph E. Burke, Jr. and his wife Eleanor of Berkley and the late Marylou Burke.

Loving grandmother of Marylou Best and her late husband George of Brockton, Michael Piantoni and his wife Carrie of Brockton, Andrew Burke and his wife Ericka of Berkley.

Cherished great grandmother of Erin and Erik Best, Zoie and Joseph Burke.

Dorothy was the last of five siblings and is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Wednesday, December 27 at 11a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation at the funeral home Wednesday morning 10 – 11 a.m. Interment Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the George “Joe” Best Memorial Fund, c/o Mutual Bank, ATTN: George “Joe” Best Memorial Fund, 777 Belmont Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
