Braintree, Edythe A. MacBeth, age 86, of Braintree, formerly of Quincy, died very peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton, surrounded by her loving family.

Edythe was born in Quincy on May 8, 1931 to the late Alexander and Annie (Darrach) MacBeth. She was raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1948. After graduation, she attended Simmons College, graduating in 1952, having received a full scholarship for academic excellence.

She taught in Braintree for thirty-nine years, mostly at the East Middle School, retiring in 1992.  She was a very devoted teacher, and many people said that she was always the first teacher to arrive at school, and the last one to leave.

Edythe was a very humble, yet very generous woman, supporting many missionaries and Christian causes throughout the world.

She was a spectacular chef and baker as well as an accomplished seamstress, often making her own clothes.  She hosted many delicious holiday dinners, and was well known for her Christmas cookies, and was always happy to cook a meal for anyone in need.

Edythe was the youngest of seven children and was pre-deceased by Lorna MacPhee, Verna Brown, Marian MacBeth, Alexander MacBeth, Blanche MacBeth, and Ruth Bradbury. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Ms. Macbeth was my Home arc teacher at EST Junior. I still make her devil dogs and she helped me realize my passion for food. I have been a Culinary arts instructor for 25 years and have her to thank for helping me to develop my passion.
