Barbara Mae Hayden, age 96

Barbara Mae (Oster) Hayden, age 96, of Media, Pa., died peacefully, Monday, June 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, to the late Eva Mary (Belliveau) and Russell Roseberg Oster. She was raised and educated in Quincy, and graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1947.

She lived in Media, Pa. for three years, previously in Dedham for almost thirty years. Prior to that, she lived in Barrington, Rhode Island for many years. Barbara also lived in various states including Ohio, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan and back to Rhode Island upon her husband’s retirement.

She began her career working as a secretary for the former Woolworth’s in Downtown Boston. At the age of twenty-three, she moved as a newlywed to Ohio where she began to raise her family, becoming a dedicated homemaker. Most of all, she was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, actively supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

Barbara had many hobbies and interests which always kept her on the go! She belonged to many art associations and sang in several clubs, senior centers, and choirs where she also played the piano. She was also an avid bowler and line dancer.

Beloved wife of the late Stoddard F. Hayden.

Devoted mother of Pamela A. Carr of Eaton, Colorado, Geraldine K. Greenberg and her husband Gary of Media, Pennsylvania, and Melissa M. Ouvry and her husband Gary of Highland, Michigan.

Loving grandmother of Jocelyn Shawyer and her husband Christopher, Benjamin Carr and his wife Laura, Abigail Propp and her husband Jascha, and Brian Carr and his wife Sarah; Alyssa Greenberg and Erica Greenberg; and Patrick Loudy and his wife Yvonne.

Cherished great grandmother of ten great grandchildren and 3 great step-grandchildren.

Dear sister of the late Joanne L. Prezioso and her late husband Antonio, the late Russell Oster and his late wife Virginia.

Barbara is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Friday, June 20, at 10 a.m. Reverend Clifford R. Brown, Rector, Christ Church Episcopal Quincy, will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation prior to the service from 9 – 10 a.m. Interment Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
