Dorothy L. (Meda) Savonen, age 82

Dorothy L. (Meda) Savonen, age 82, of Braintree, died, Thursday, January 6, 2022, at South Shore Hospital, after a brief illness, surrounded by her family.

Dotty was born in Quincy, to the late Frank H. and Florence E. (Shepard) Meda. She was raised in Quincy, and was a graduate of the former Saint John’s School and Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1957. She lived in Braintree for the past fifty-seven years.

As a young woman, she worked at Remick’s in Quincy and left to care for her children. She later returned to work part-time in the OB/GYN office of Dr. Paul Cotter and Dr. George Doyle.

She lovingly dedicated her life to her family and always supported them in their activities and accomplishments. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and camping in New Hampshire, although the greatest joys in her life were her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed the times that she spent with all of them.

Beloved wife for sixty-two years of Robert E. Savonen.

Devoted mother of Donna L. O’Shea and her husband Daniel of South Easton, Robert J. Savonen of Braintree, Janis M. Kirby and her husband Paul of Holbrook, and James W. Savonen of Plymouth.

Loving grandmother of Jennifer O’Shea, Michael O’Shea and his wife Samantha, Ryan O’Shea and his wife Michaela, Paul Kirby and his wife Tina, Nicole Kirby, Christopher Kirby, and Jamie Kirby.

Cherished great-grandmother of Kieran and Kaden Kirby, and Aiden O’Shea.

Graveside services were conducted privately at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dotty’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
