Braintree, Eileen T. (Cleary) Dowd, age 82, of Braintree, formerly of Dorchester, died peacefully, Friday, October 12, 2018, at home, in the comfort of her loving family.
Eileen was born in Boston to the late Patrick and Theresa (Murphy) Cleary. She was raised and educated in Dorchester and was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Class of 1954. She had lived in Braintree for fifty-two years.
Eileen began her career at Boston Edison before getting married, and later worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield. She was employed with the Town of Braintree for over ten years, serving as a clerk in the Town Clerk’s Office.
Eileen was a parishioner of Saint Joseph’s Church in Quincy where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed exercising and was a fixture at the South Shore YMCA in Quincy for many years.
Most of all, Eileen was devoted to her family, actively supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

Devoted mother of Stephen P. Dowd and his wife Jean of Hanover, Christine M. Dowd of Braintree, and Cynthia A. “Cindy” Kineavy and her husband Roger J. Kineavy, Jr., Capt., Q.F.D. of Hanover.
Loving grandmother of Ryan and Brendan Dowd; Roger, Zachary, Thomas, Haley, Hannah, and Bridget Kineavy.
One of eight siblings, she was the sister of Kevin Cleary of Rockland, Elaine Pearson of Texas, Anne Mullen of Hingham, and was predeceased by Thomas Cleary, Patricia Loring, Mary Magill, and Virginia Dexter. Eileen is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Thursday, October 18th at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Joseph’s Church, 550 Washington Street, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Wednesday 4 – 7 p.m. Interment Braintree Cemetery.
