Esther R. (Conway) Aimola, age 97

Esther R. (Conway) Aimola, age 97, of Rockland, devoted mother of Patricia Vacca and her husband Richard, also of Rockland, died peacefully, Sunday, August 28, 2022, holding her daughter’s hand.

She was born in Hingham, to the late James and Marian (Stetson) Conway. She graduated from Rockland High School and worked in the office of Bethlehem Steel during the war and before her marriage. She loved to dance and met her beloved husband, Adolph “Dolphy” Aimola, at one of those dances. They were together for sixty-eight years before his passing in 2013. She retired in 1990 from State Street Bank, where she worked in the very first debit card department.

Golfing was a passion she learned from her husband, who called her “Irish” for all their days together. They belonged to Furnace Brook Golf Club, South Shore Country Club, and Citrus Hills Country Club in Florida where they enjoyed their retirement. They enjoyed traveling to play at some of the country’s most famous golf courses.

Esther was the loving grandmother of Juliane Shaw and her husband Ralph of Hampden, Maine, and Jennifer Farrand and her husband Michael of Frankfort, Illinois, and the cherished great-grandmother of Alessandra Tuttle and her husband Brad of Bangor, Maine, Rebecca Iezzi and her husband Anthony, and Kelsey Baker and her husband Jared, all of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Madison Badeen of Hampden, Maine. She was the very proud great-great-grandmother of Elliott Baker of Pittsburgh, Penn., and step great-great-grandmother to Steven and Brooklyn Tuttle of Bangor, Maine. She was predeceased by her nine siblings, James, Marian, Jeremiah, William, and Richard Conway, Alice Krappe, Dorothy Dyson, Lorraine Reardon, and Evelyn Personeni. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. Esther was the last of her generation from both the Conway and Aimola families (a total of seventeen brothers and sisters combined).

Visiting hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Friday, September 2, from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Saturday, September 3, at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, West Quincy.
