Francis J. “Luke” Higgins, age 81

Quincy, Francis J. “Luke” Higgins, age 81, of Quincy formerly of Dorchester and Milton, died peacefully, Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, surrounded by his loving family.

Luke was born in Boston to the late Malachy and Mary (O’Connor) Higgins. He was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of the former Don Bosco High School. He had lived in Quincy for over thirty years and previously in Milton.

He was employed in the circulation department for the Boston Globe for over twenty years. After retirement, Luke was the owner and operator of the former Luke’s Lounge in Quincy.

Luke served in the U.S. Army with the Hawaiian Military Police Department.

He was an avid Boston sports fan and an animal lover.

Most of all, he was dedicated to his family and especially to his three cherished grandsons. He loved spending time with them, attending all their sporting events and actively supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

Luke was a wonderful man who was described by his family and friends as a “one in a million”.

Beloved husband for sixty years of Dorothy H. (Knapp) Higgins.

Devoted father of Matthew M. Higgins of Hanover, Michelle Higgins and her husband Thomas Simon of Hanover.

Loving grandfather of David Gibson and his wife Lindsey, twins, Michael and Steven Simon all of Hanover.

Dear brother of John Higgins and his wife Irina of Hingham, Lawrence Higgins and his wife Marie of Marshfield, James Higgin and his wife Lianne of Braintree, Paul Higgins and his late wife Elizabeth of CA, Leo Higgins and his late wife Elaine of Quincy, George Higgins and his wife Susan of Quincy, Richard Higgins and his late wife Trina of Braintree. Luke is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Tuesday, October 23rd at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home Monday 4 – 8 p.m. Interment Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
