Joseph R. Smith, age 80

Quincy, Joseph R. Smith, age 80, of Quincy, passed away, peacefully, Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Alliance Health at Marina Bay, in the comfort of his loving family.

Joseph was born in Boston, raised and educated in Jamaica Plain. He had lived in Quincy for the past eight years, previously in Randolph for many years, and earlier in South Boston.

He was proud to have served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

Joseph was employed by the United States Postal Service for forty years. He had worked as a mail handler in the Priority Mail Facility for many years, previously in the General Mail Facility at South Station.

He was a member of the Randolph AMVETS Post #51 and Randolph Lodge of Elks #2130.

Joseph was an avid New York Yankees fan and had many fond memories of going to games with his grandfather.

Loving son of the late Rita B. (Griffin) Smith.

Devoted, longtime companion of the late Josephine Jimenez.

Joseph is survived by his extended family, Regina M. Rowell and her son Martin E. Jimenez, Jr., both of Quincy, as well as Tony Jimenez, Martin Jimenez, Sr., Josephine Carbone, and the late Janet Jimenez.

He is also survived by many grandchildren.

Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Saturday, February 16th at 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 12 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation at the funeral home Saturday morning 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, at Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.
