Lois E. (Carey) Deware, age 101

Quincy, Lois E. (Carey) Deware, age 101, a longtime Quincy resident, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Quincy Medical Center.

Lois was born in Manhattan, New York and adopted by the late Matthew B. and Nellie (Bonsall) Carey. She was raised and educated in California and Massachusetts and had lived in Quincy for over eighty years.

She was a member of the Union Congregational Church of Wollaston and had served as a former deacon.

Lois was active in community affairs and service and had held the position of Vice-President on the former William B. Rice Eventide Auxiliary Board in Quincy until it disbanded several years ago.

She was a member of the Braintree Chapter #167 of the Order of Eastern Star and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Wollaston and for many years placed flags on the graves at the historic National Sailors’ Home Cemetery in Quincy’s Wollaston section in observance of Memorial Day.

Lois had also served on the Quincy Historical Society’s Board of Directors and worked as a volunteer in the gift shop until the age of 98.

Beloved wife for thirty-five years of the late Robert M. Deware.

Devoted mother of Deborah A. Deware, Donna R. Deware both of Wollaston and Marsha J. Greto and her husband James of Braintree.

Dear aunt of Jacklyn Gallagher and Scott Deware and is survived by three grandnieces and one grandnephew.

Lois will also be missed by her close neighbors and friends.

At the request of the family, private graveside services were conducted at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
