Thomas was born in Jamaica Plain, a place he dearly loved, and he graduated from Jamaica Plain High School in 1957. He explored a few professions, including a stint in the U.S. Air Force, before joining the Boston Police Department in 1968. He would go on to have a long career, rising through the ranks until he became a Captain in 1989, at which point he was assigned as South Boston District Commander at the new station on West Broadway, the position he retired from in 2003.

He graduated from the former Boston State College in 1973 and it was as a student there that he met his beloved wife Elizabeth M. (McCarthy) Crowley, also of Jamaica Plain. They made their home in Quincy and were married for 48 years. Thomas also leaves his children Maura E. Crowley of Quincy, Caitlin F. Crowley and her husband Matthew Koroghlian of Brooklyn, NY, and Brendan T. Crowley of Brooklyn, NY.

He had a memorable sense of humor and was deeply devoted to his family. He was happiest at home, where he enjoyed Brigham’s coffee ice cream, playing with his kids and his dogs, watching the Red Sox, and the music of Gene Autry and The Irish Hit Parade.

He is predeceased by his dear Grandmother Mary MacBeth, his parents Joe and Winnie (MacBeth) Crowley, his siblings Robert and Bonnie Crowley, and his lifelong best friend John Corboy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Saturday, August 31, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
