Urbano “Tony” DiPietro, age 94, of Braintree, formerly of Boston’s North End, died peacefully, Saturday, November 30, 2024 in the comfort of his loving wife and family.
Urbano was born in Bonito, Province of Avellino, Region of Campania, Italy, to the late Gennaro and Caterina (Lomaglio) DiPietro. He was raised and educated there. He immigrated to the United States in 1945 at the age of sixteen, settling in Boston’s North End. He lived in Braintree for forty years, previously in Somerville and the North End. He and his wife, Teresa, were also winter residents of Naples, Florida for twenty years, where they made many friendships.
Tony was a popular Italian radio personality and announcer in the greater Boston area with station WLYN for over twenty years. People enjoyed his pleasant voice and interesting shows. Tuning in each day became a routine for many of his loyal listeners.
Urbano was also the well-known and respected owner and operator of Pandolfo Tailoring, located on Hanover Street in the North End for over fifty years. He was proud of his Italian heritage and was active in community affairs.
As a young man, Urbano was a talented actor and was involved in many local plays and productions.
He was a soccer fan and his favorite team was SSC Napoli. Tony enjoyed writing poetry. He was also an accomplished painter and musician, playing the guitar, as well as an avid gardener both at home and in Florida.
Most of all, Tony was devoted to his loving wife, Teresa, and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Devoted brother of the late Carmela Tordiglione.
Loving uncle of Diana Vitale and her husband Davide of Wilmington, Liliana DiCenso and her husband Arcangelo of Tewksbury.
Brother-in-law of Raffaele Candeloro and his wife Norma of Braintree, Enza D’Amato and her husband Enzo of Italy.
Tony is also survived by many great nieces, great nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Tuesday, December 3, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Immediately following the visitation, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, at 11 a.m. Entombment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
