Michael M. Monahan, age 71

Michael M. Monahan, age 71, of Marshfield, died peacefully, Thursday, November 27, 2025 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born in Harrow, England to the late Margaret (Sherry) and Thomas Andrew Monahan and immigrated to the United States with his family as a child. He was raised in Boston, and was a graduate of Milton Academy, Class of 1969. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Boston College, Class of 1973. He lived in Green Harbor, Marshfield for the past twenty-nine years, previously in Needham.

Mike worked as an accountant for the American Council of Life Insurers in Washington, D.C. for eighteen years. Prior to that, he worked for Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company in Canton. He took pride in earning dozens of additional certifications and credentials relating to his pursuit of becoming the most well-informed subject matter expert in his realm of expertise. He was a longtime member of the IASA.

He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed attending games at Fenway Park with his grandson Evan, where they befriended the staff of the Aura Club. Mike was also an animal lover, making sure that he fed the day’s leftovers to the neighborhood’s various wilderness critters each evening by delivering a heaping feast to the edge of the salt marsh. Mike was predeceased by his beloved Shiba Inu, Panda, whom he inherited when the kids moved out and whose location he would constantly remind the household of, although she was rarely far from his side.

Beloved husband for twenty-five years of Nancy M. (Longhi) Monahan; they made many memories traveling together, especially to Nancy’s (and his proudly adopted) homeland, Italy.

Devoted father of Carolyn Marie, Sonny Comperchio and his wife Kristie.

Loving grandfather of Joshua, Evan, and Tucker; Britney, Brooke, and Christian.

Dear brother of Mary Clewley and her husband Glynn, Pamela Howe, Robert, and Thomas Jr. He was predeceased by his late siblings Carol Baker, David Monahan and John Monahan.

Mike is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Thursday, December 4, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

For those who wish, donations in Michael’s memory may be made to the MSPCA-Angell, Attn: Donations, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130 or www.mspca.org.

  • Nancy, Steve and I want to express our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Mike was a force of nature always sweet to everyone and everything. Peace to you my friend.

  • I am so sorry for your family’s loss.

  • Jay & I are saddened & shocked to learn of Mike’s passing. He was a dear soul with always a hearty greeting and a positive comment or compliment for everyone. With him and Nancy we enjoyed many trips abroad. A trip cruising the Seine including a trip to Normandy is a favorite. The Monahans & Bradfords dressed for the Roaring Twenties party. We send our condolences to Nancy and all Mike’s loved ones. Fredo will miss him too, as will we.
