Bridget “Bridie” Duffy, age 94

Bridget “Bridie” (O’Connor) Duffy, age 94, a longtime resident of Braintree, died peacefully, Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at her sister Nancy’s home, surrounded by her loving family.

Bridie was born in Moycullen, Galway, Ireland, to the late John and Ellen (Keeler) O’Connor. Educated in Galway, she immigrated to the United States in 1951, first arriving in New York and eventually settling in Jamaica Plain. After she married the love of her life, Michael, Bridie made Braintree her home for over sixty-five years.

As a young woman, Bridie worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and then American Locker Company in Boston before marrying and raising her family. In her later years, she worked as a private duty nurse providing care and comfort to so many.

Bridie was a longtime member of the Gardeners’ Guild of Braintree as well as the former Mothers’ Club at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church for over sixty-five years.

She was an avid reader, talented seamstress, knitter, and gardener. Bridie had fun golfing at Rockland Golf Course with her lovely group of friends. She enjoyed many summers in Dennis caring for her beautiful hydrangeas and walking along the beaches there. She simply loved Cape Cod. Above all, Bridie adored her family and her grandchildren who she called her “cherubs”, supporting their many activities and accomplishments. Bridie believed a cup of tea fixed most things and never spoke a bad word about anyone. She was witty and quick…always loving laughter around her.

Her unwavering love, kindness, and guidance will remain an eternal treasure for all who loved her.

Beloved and cherished wife of the late Michael T. Duffy. Devoted mother of Brendan Duffy and his wife Margaret “Peggy” of Dennisport, Elaine O’Shaughnessy and her husband Liam of Galway, Ireland, Deirdre Kelly and her husband Mark of Calabash, N.C., Erin Wilson and her husband Michael of Braintree, and the late Carleen Duffy.
