Paul Richard Mullaney, age 89

Paul Richard Mullaney, age 89, a longtime resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Sunday, January 18, 2026 at Windrose at Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born in Quincy, to the late Thomas J. and Bertha M. (Herbert) Mullaney. He was a graduate of the former Saint John’s Elementary School, attended Quincy High School and later Northeastern University. He lived in Quincy for most of his life.

Paul was proud to have served in the United States Navy as a Boilerman (Repairman) Petty Officer Third Class aboard the USS Lake Champlain (CVA 39) and the USS Coral Sea (CVB-43) during the mid-1950s. He received the Navy Occupation Service Medal.

Paul was employed as a medical equipment engineer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for thirty-eight years, retiring at the age of seventy-eight.

Paul had a passion for travel and travelled the world. He was an aviation enthusiast, loved the ocean and sailing and was an avid reader.

Most of all, he was devoted to his family, especially his cherished grandchildren.

Beloved husband of the late Carol M. (Runnalls) Mullaney.

Devoted father of Paul Robert Mullaney and his wife Leslie of Weymouth, Cheryl A. Mullaney-Thompson and her partner Chris DeLauter of Frederick, Md., and the late Christine M. Mullaney.

Loving grandfather of Shannon Mullaney-Reyes and her husband Carlos, Paul Ryan Mullaney, Rachel Burns and her husband Thomas, Ryan Thompson, Renae Thompson, and Reanna Thompson.

One of five siblings, he was the dear brother of Lawrence H. Mullaney of Quincy and was predeceased by Robert A. Mullaney, Frances P. Babcock, and John J. Mullaney.

Paul is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Memorial Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Friday, January 30, from 4 – 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Memorial Funeral Services will be conducted at the Bethany Congregational Church, 18 Spear Street, Quincy, on Saturday, January 31, at 10 a.m. Pastor Glenn Campbell will officiate. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Quincy.
