Andrew Smeaton, age 56

Andrew Smeaton, age 56, of Quincy, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Boston Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.

Andrew was born, raised, and educated in Liverpool, England. In 2000, he immigrated to the United States, first settling in Rhode Island before making Quincy his home for the past twenty-three years. He remained deeply connected to his British roots while fully embracing his life in the United States, bringing with him a distinctive warmth, humor, and generosity of spirit that left a lasting impression wherever he went.

Andrew possessed a rare and natural charisma. He was funny, energetic, and adventurous, with an infectious enthusiasm for life. He delighted in simple moments and had a gift for elevating everyday experiences, ensuring that those around him felt joy, belonging, and connection. His presence filled rooms, and laughter often followed.

Professionally, Andrew was a highly respected leader in the cybersecurity industry, widely known for his integrity, intellect, and courage, serving as a prominent Chief Information Security Officer. Earlier in his career, he served with the British Home Office in England. His sense of responsibility and moral clarity extended well beyond his professional work. Generous and brave by nature, Andrew consistently showed up for friends, colleagues, and strangers alike—offering encouragement, honest guidance, and decisive action when needed. At the outset of the war in Ukraine, Andrew traveled internationally to assist a family in immediate danger. That singular act of compassion helped catalyze a nonprofit effort that went on to support hundreds of families in crisis.

Andrew was a devoted supporter of Liverpool FC and had a lifelong love of soccer. He also deeply loved his dogs and was easy to recognize walking the neighborhood with them.

Most of all, Andrew was a deeply devoted father. He carried deep pride in each of his seven children, along with the quiet worries familiar to every loving parent. He believed in shining light wherever he was, especially at home, and he tried to ensure his children never questioned how deeply they were loved.

As a husband, Andrew shared an extraordinary bond with his wife, Jaclyn. Their ten years together, though far too short, were rich with adventure, resilience, shared humor, private jokes, and a deep friendship that anchored their marriage. They experienced more life, laughter, and love in their decade together than many couples do in a lifetime.

Andrew was the beloved husband to Jaclyn M. (Greenwood) Smeaton, and the devoted father of Emma A. Smeaton, Hannah M. Smeaton, Miles T. Chasse, Montgomery A.T. Smeaton, Spencer D. Chasse, Charlotte E.L. Smeaton, and William M.A. Smeaton, all of Quincy.

He was the loving son of Alfred Smeaton of Edinburgh, Scotland and the late Elaine May (Rogers) Smeaton, and a dear brother to Samantha Freeman and her husband Paul of Fenstanton, England. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins in England, Scotland, and Australia.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Monday, February 2, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 3, at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, a trust has been established to support the short and long-term needs of the family. Contributions in Andrew’s memory may be made to support his children’s future needs through The Smeaton Family Trust, c/o Stablepoint Partners, 45 Braintree Hill Office Park, #402, Braintree, MA 02184 or submitted online through the GoFundMe set up for the family at https://gofund.me/91e8c9aca.

Andrew lived by his favorite quote, from William Penn:

“I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

Andrew lived these words fully and generously, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, courage, joy, and love.

  • Jaclyn and family, I am so sad to hear of Andy’s passing. I had the privilege to work with Andy at two banks (Danversbank and Salem Five Bank). Andy was my boss at Danversbank just before the acquisition to People’s Bank. Andy was a gentleman and always had an interesting story to tell of his life or an adventure. You are all in my prayers and thoughts during this very difficult time

    Requiescat in pace

    Eternal rest grant unto them,

O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they Rest In Peace. Amen. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Amen.

  • Jaclyn and family, I am so sad to hear of Andy’s passing. My deepest condolences. I had the honor and privilege to work and report to Andy at Jamf Software. Andy wasn’t just my superior, he became a “mate”. Andy and I immediately forged a rapport both inside and outside of work. His smile was infectious, his passion was energetic, and his charisma was addicting. I regret that I was not able to meet Andy in person as we both worked remotely. Andy is a gentleman and will be missed tremendously. Please know that you are all in my prayers and thoughts during this very difficult time.

RIP in Andy – until we meet again Mate.

  • I am deeply saddened by this loss and my sympathy goes out to you and the family.

I will forever cherish how he helped me believe in myself, offering guidance as a mentor and friend that fundamentally changed my life by removing my constant feeling of impostor syndrome.

He is one of a very few that I will never forget for both who he is and what he done for me and many others.

  • I’m shocked and saddened by Andy’s passing, I only knew him a few short years. During that time our sons become close friends. I’m grateful for their friendship and know that Andy was a great influence on my Son. Aiden spoke highly of Andrew and always enjoyed his time in the Smeaton household. Their house was always lively and full of love. I have no doubt that Andy and Jaclyn were always warm and welcoming to Aiden. My deepest sympathies go out to all of Andy’s family, especially to Jaclyn. Seeing two people so obviously in love with each other is rare. My heart breaks for you. Andy was quick with a smile, quicker with a joke and easy to laugh. I will miss him sorely. He was one of a kind.

Rest in Peace Andrew, you will be missed by all who knew you.

    Sincerely,
    Joe Lynch.
