Anthony J. “Tony” Contrino age 85, a longtime resident of Quincy and Bonita Springs, Fla., died peacefully, Thursday, May 7, 2026 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Anthony was born in Quincy, to the late Vincent and Mary (Attardo) Contrino. Raised and educated there, he was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1959.

As a young man, Tony worked for the Bethlehem Steel Company as a welder at the former Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. He also worked at several other area shipyards, including in South Boston. After receiving his teaching credentials, he taught at Quincy High School and later at East Boston Trade School for several years.

In the mid-1970’s Tony became the coordinator for the apprentice program for Local 7 which he ran for many years, as well as being an ironworker, retiring in 1998.

Tony proudly served in the Massachusetts National Guard during the early 1960s.

He was an avid reader and a longtime member of the Adams Heights Men’s Club in Quincy.

Tony thoroughly enjoyed his twenty-eight years living in Bonita Springs, Florida, where he made many friendships. He played in a senior softball league and especially loved the sun and the beach.

Most of all, Tony was devoted to his family, relished family gatherings and supporting his grandchildren.

Devoted father of Michael V. Contrino and his wife Nancy of Chandler, Arizona, Matthew W. Contrino and his wife Debbie of Barnstable, and Daniel A. Contrino and his wife Marin of Plymouth.

Loving grandfather of Rayanne, Anya, Angus, Morgan, Ronan, Sloane, Nora, Sebastian, and Cecily Contrino.

Dear brother of Louis V. Contrino and his wife Carol of Quincy, Frances M. “Frannie” Foy of Quincy and her late husband C. Robert, Vincent Contrino, Jr. and his wife Mary of Quincy, Laurence R. Contrino and his wife Gini of Foxboro, John P. Contrino and his wife Kristina of Glocester, Rhode Island.

Longtime companion of Marie Kennedy of Quincy. Tony is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, May 14, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. At the request of Tony’s family, funeral services and interment will take place privately.
