Dorothy J. “Dottie” Laracy, age 87

Dorothy J. “Dottie” (Navicky) Laracy, age 87, a longtime resident of Braintree, died peacefully, Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Sunrise of Braintree, in the comfort of her loving family.

Dorothy was born in Boston, to the late John A. and Josephine M. (Constantine) Navicky. Raised and educated in Dorchester, she was a graduate of Dorchester High School, Class of 1956, and later earned her Associate degree from Quincy College. She lived in Braintree for over sixty-two years and also enjoyed her vacation home in Denmark, Maine for many years.

Dottie was employed as a customer service representative for Verizon. She worked in the Boston and Braintree offices and retired with twenty-five years of service. She also worked as a school crossing traffic supervisor for the Town of Braintree for many years.

She enthusiastically pursued physical fitness, finding joy in her regular visits to the gym and an active running routine. She was an accomplished runner who consistently placed first in her age group at every road race she entered, earning admiration from her peers.

Dottie was a woman of faith and a longtime active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth, where she made many friendships. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality and enjoyed making prayer shawls for the church, her family, and friends. She also donated prayer shawls to patients at South Shore Hospital, where she was a volunteer for over twenty years in the gift shop.

For decades, she gave generously of her time and her heart to those in need. Dottie volunteered with local charities and community programs, including the Clothes Closet, as well as working closely with special needs children. Her compassion was heartfelt and quietly made sure others were cared for. Her volunteer work was not a duty but an expression of who she was: someone who saw people and responded with action.

Outside of fitness, she passionately enjoyed going to the theater and concerts, often sharing her love of music, especially Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, with family and friends. Her appreciation for the arts was matched by her adventurous spirit in Maine, where she cherished snowmobiling, skiing and canoeing on Moose Pond.

Traveling was another source of happiness for her, whether embarking on cruises, exploring Las Vegas, or discovering new destinations. She was deeply proud of her Lithuanian heritage, a cherished part of holiday celebrations, where traditional dishes and customs brought family together and honored her roots. Among her many creations, it was her signature blueberry cake that became legendary, a desert so memorable that even Julia Child herself once enjoyed a slice.

She had a deep love for animals, and they were drawn to her calm, kind spirit. She cared for them with the same tenderness she offered everyone in life. Her home was always a place where animals were welcomed and loved.

Most of all, Dottie was devoted to her husband, Fred, her children, grandchildren, and great grandsons, actively supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved wife for sixty-seven years of Frederick J. Laracy, Captain, Quincy Police Department, Retired.

Devoted mother of Mark R. Laracy and his wife Lori of Braintree, Linda E. Laracy of Quincy, Lisa J. Laracy of Braintree, Laura Jo Laracy of Quincy and her late fiancé Patrick Irwin, and the late Frederick J. Laracy.

Loving grandmother of Richard P. Feeney, Mark R. Laracy, Jr. and his wife Jamie, Matthew R. Laracy, and Mitchell R. Laracy.

Cherished great grandmother of Mercer Remington Laracy and Jetson Richard Laracy.
