Guy J. Fredette, age 88
of Braintree
Guy J. Fredette, age 88, a lifelong resident of Braintree, died peacefully, Friday, May 22, 2026 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Guy was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Braintree, and was a graduate of Braintree High School, Class of 1956, where he excelled on the football team. He once intercepted a pass and ran 80 yards before being tackled.
He was a Master Electrician and began his career at the former Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. He had twenty-nine years of service and worked for both the Bethlehem Steel Company and General Dynamics. After the shipyard closed in 1986, he worked at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for fifteen years, never missing a single day, retiring in 2001.
Guy proudly served in the United Sates Navy in the late 1950s. He was an electrician’s mate 3/c aboard the U.S.S. Tripoli CVE-64, an escort aircraft carrier.
He was the strong, silent type and a man of few words, but he was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather and friend; steady, dependable, and always there when you needed him.
He was the kind of father who sat at the kitchen table helping with algebra homework and who never hesitated to drive us wherever we needed to be. A true jack of all trades, he could fix anything, nothing was thrown away until Dad had a chance to look at it. He was our trusted source for financial advice, car maintenance, home repairs, and gardening guidance. We could always rely on him.
Guy treasured his six grandchildren, attending their games and recitals and lovingly babysitting his two youngest grandchildren before they started kindergarten, always with our mother by his side.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved gardening, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables, something he truly excelled at. He enjoyed watching sports on the couch with his pet dog, Butchi, while eating a half gallon of ice cream! Guy never met a desert he didn’t like, especially if it was made by our mother.
Guy will be remembered for being a good man; steady, humble and hardworking, always with a full head of hair. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.
Our family would like to especially thank Susan and Darin for all the support they provided; we never could have done it without them.
Beloved husband for sixty-five years to the love of his life, Catherine E. (Emanuello) Fredette.
Devoted father of Pamela A. Fredette of Braintree, Lynn M. Norton and her husband Jerry of Rindge, N.H., Susan J. Wilson and her husband Darin of Medford, and John Fredette and his wife Peggy of Berkley.
Loving Grampy of six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Dear brother of the late Sue Early. Guy is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family, funeral services were private.
