Margaret Ann “Peggy” (Mooney) Powers, age 91, of Braintree, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2026 after a brief illness, in the comfort of her loving family.
Margaret was born in Boston, to the late Joseph F. and Margaret G. (Clements) Mooney. She was raised in Boston and also lived in Wilmington, with her family, for several years. Returning to Boston, she graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston, Class of 1952. She moved to Braintree in August of 1967 after having raised four children in Dorchester. The move to Braintree came with “new house, new baby” and the family of five kids was complete.
Peggy worked with her best friend, Rosemary Powers, the twin sister of Edward James Powers of South Boston. Rosemary introduced Peggy to her brother Ed in 1955 while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They were married on June 6, 1959 in Saint Mark’s Church in Dorchester.
She was devoted to her husband, their children, grandchildren and extended family. If you met Peggy, chances are that she considered you as family. She had her family at her favorite job, Jet Products, Inc., family at the former Saint Thomas More Parish in Braintree and her family at Independence Manor.
Peggy was a woman of great faith and active member of the former Saint Thomas More Parish in Braintree, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Ladies Sodality and Catholic Daughters. She loved the times she and Ed spent in the Couples Club at Saint Thomas More Church and also enjoyed her membership in the Sons of Erin in Yarmouth.

Devoted mother of Susan A. Miller and her husband Gregory of Florida, Paul G. Powers of Salem, Thomas J. Powers of Hanover, Joseph F. Powers of Harwich, and the late Edward J. Powers III.
Loving grandmother of Jenn-Marie Smith, Jessica Berkery, Rebecca Petz, Alicia Smith, Kristen A. Powers, Nathaniel A. Powers, Madeleine Powers, Maggie Powers, Grace Powers, and nine cherished great grandchildren.
Dear sister of Editha L. Murphy and sister-in-law of Rosemary V. Shea, Carole A. MacAleese, and Barbara Mooney.
Peggy was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph F. Mooney and his late wife Bobbie, Paul T. Mooney and his late wife Jean, and William K. Mooney. She was also sister-in-law of the late Donald E. and Claire Powers, John P. Shea, Robert MacAleese and Janet C. Powers. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and their families.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, August 27, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish at Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington Street, Weymouth, on Friday, August 28, at 10:30 a.m. Cremation will follow.
Peggy’s family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at South Shore Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Sandwich, South Cove Manor, Dwyer Home and Old Colony Hospice for their care and support.
