Scott D. Murphy, age 55, of Rockland, formerly of Weymouth and Quincy, died suddenly, Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Scott was born and raised in Quincy. He was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1989, and attended Bentley College.
He lived in Rockland for twenty-five years, previously in Weymouth, and earlier in Quincy.
Scott had worked as a conductor for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. Prior to that, he was employed as a driver for the Volta Oil Company.
Scott volunteered as a girls’ softball coach in Rockland for many years.
He loved to travel, try new foods, and enjoyed a good horse race. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his friends and family, especially his wife and children.
Beloved husband for thirty-four years of Ann Marie (Sweeney) Murphy.
Devoted father of Shannon M. Murphy, Nicholas M. Murphy, both of Rockland, and the late Miranda E. (Murphy) Bentley.
Cherished son of George B. Janes of Laconia, N.H. and the late Maureen A. “Moe” Murphy.
Son-in-law of Denise Sweeney of Hanover and the late Robert A. Sweeney.
Scott is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and their families.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, September 20, from 2 – 5 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Monday, September 21, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
