Our family is deeply saddened to announce that Marion Mary Dunphy passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the age of 95. She was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on May 9, 1931 to Mary and Frederick Bailer. Marion was the heart and soul of an extended group of family and friends, keeping us connected through compassion, love and kindness.

After graduating from high school in 1949, Marion attended the Aviation Training School of Boston. Upon completing her training, Marion moved to Jackson Heights in New York City to work for Northeast Airlines as a stewardess. She retired her wings in 1954 to marry the love of her life, Francis Dunphy. They settled in Quincy and raised a family of five children, built a successful building contracting company, and developed friendships that would last a lifetime.

After losing her husband after 38 years of marriage Marion took on the role of matriarch of the family. The challenges she faced were many, but she was never too busy to take your phone call or lend a sympathetic ear to a friend or neighbor. She was the friend people turned to when consoling or congratulations were needed. Her door was always open, and her annual Christmas Eve open house was a cherished tradition.

Marion was active until the last few months of her life. She was a decades long poll worker for Ward 4 and enjoyed meeting friends at the Weymouth Club and the Kennedy Senior Center. In addition to her love of novels and old T.V. Westerns, Marion enjoyed playing cards and dominos and had a passion for arts and crafts. She found jewelry making later in life and never wore an outfit that wasn’t bejeweled with one of her own creations.

Marion is survived by four of her children and their spouses: Michael and Joanne Dunphy, Kurt and Peggy Dunphy, Michelle and Robert Lynch and Kirsten and James Manning. “Mimi” is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marion is preceded in death by her husband Francis Dunphy, sisters Emily Lesile and Helen McKinnon, son Mark Dunphy, grandson Ian Dunphy, niece Debra Leslie and nephew Eric Leslie.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Divine Mercy Parish at Saint Mary’s Church, 95 Crescent Street, West Quincy, on Thursday, October 15, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, Marion has requested that donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriners Children’s Boston, Office of Philanthropy, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.

The family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate care provided to our mother by the staff at Allerton House Weymouth, which she called home for the past four years, and to the staff at Atrium at Faxon Woods in Quincy, where she spent her final days.
