Bertha A. Massey

Bertha A. (Gaziano) Massey, of Weymouth, died peacefully, Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, surrounded by her loving family.

Bertha was born in Quincy, to the late Charles and Carmela (Spatola) Gaziano, who were both born in the Region of Abruzzo, Italy, and immigrated to the United States. She was raised and educated in Quincy and married Richard J. Massey, Jr. of Portland, Maine.

She lived in Weymouth for several years, previously in Quincy Point for most of her life.

For many years, Bertha was a supervisor with the Quincy Traffic Division and shortly after became a meter maid with the Quincy Police Department. She had over twenty-five years of service at the time of her retirement.

Bertha will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her kindness, her honesty and especially her devotion to her Catholic faith. She served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth.

Most of all, Bertha was dedicated to her family, especially to her much-loved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Devoted mother of Diana Prewitt and her husband Ray of Weymouth, Camile Morris and her husband James of Abington, Bethaney A. Walkama and her husband Mark of Rockland, Richard J. Massey III and his wife Maria of Weymouth, and Corrine Cox and her husband Michael of Weymouth.

Loving grandmother of Richard Prewitt and his wife Cathy of Abington, Michelle Kendall and her husband Peter of Norwell, Jeffrey Morris and his wife Barbara of Weymouth, Rick Massey and his wife Dominique of Scituate, Corrine Cox and her husband Darragh of Pembroke, Jennifer McGuire and her husband Philip of Hingham, Jacquelyn Pash and her husband Brian of Allendale, N.J.

Cherished great grandmother of sixteen.

One of six siblings, Bertha was the dear sister of Anthony Gaziano of Fla., and was predeceased by Samuel Gaziano, Carl Gaziano, Cora Arciprete, and James Gaziano. Bertha is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families. Bertha was the dear Godmother of Mildred McDonald and Charles Arciprete.

Bertha’s Funeral Mass was celebrated in Saint Albert the Great Church and her interment took place at Mount Wollaston Cemetery.
