Carol A. Knowlton, age 79

Carol A. (Peacock) Knowlton, age 79, of Holbrook, formerly of Quincy, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at the Boston Medical Center, in the comfort of her loving family.

Carol was born in Quincy, to the late Winston A. and Dorothy M. (Inman) Peacock. Raised in Quincy, she was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1964, and was also a graduate of the former Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. She lived in Holbrook for over fifty years.

She was employed as a registered nurse, working in the IV therapy department at the former Quincy City Hospital for thirty years.

Carol was a lifelong active member of the Fort Square Presbyterian Church in Quincy, where she shared many lasting friendships. She was involved in many church activities, including children’s programs, the Friendship Circle, and helping her husband, Bob, with the Free Clothing ministry.

Carol was active in Holbrook civic affairs and was a former Town Meeting Member and served on the Holbrook Scholarship Committee for many years. As a young woman, Carol had volunteered with Holbrook Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs.

Most of all, Carol was devoted to her family, especially her cherished grandchildren, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved wife for fifty-two years of Robert D. Knowlton.

Devoted mother of Matthew R. Knowlton and his wife Heather of Stoughton, and Joshua A. Knowlton.

Loving Nana of Zachary, Avery, Emily, and Jackson.

Dear sister of Stephen E. Peacock and his wife Leslie of Plymouth. Carol is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, December 11, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Fort Square Presbyterian Church, 16 Pleasant Street, Quincy, on Friday, December 12, at 10 a.m. Reverend Jason Sentas, Pastor, will officiate. Interment to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.

  • I am so sorry about this huge loss. Carol and I have been friends since junior high. We went to nursing school together. and she was my bridesmaid. She was the most loving, caring person I know. I am so glad that I just recently got to be with her. May she rest in peace.
