Christina M. Mitrusi Maher, age 75

Christina M. Mitrusi Maher, age 75, of North Weymouth, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Christina was born in Ankara, Turkey, to the late Perikli and Lusi (Ozhekim) Mitrusi. She and her family immigrated first to Belgium, where they lived for four years, and then to the United States in 1961, eventually settling in Brookline and then Brighton. She has lived in North Weymouth for the past thirty-five years.

Christina’s first career began at the International Institute of Boston, where she worked as an administrator, fundraiser, and event planner, helping countless immigrants transition into life in the United States. She then joined the administration at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, where she worked in the executive suite for many years.

She left office employment to raise her newborn son and take care of her aging father and hardworking husband in Weymouth. The matriarch of her family, she was a dedicated caregiver to many in her extended family. Christina was a remarkably gracious woman who cared deeply for her family and friends.

Christina was a member of the Weymouth Garden Club and a frequent participant in events at the Whipple Senior Center. She enjoyed boating, swimming in her beloved Back River, knitting, gardening, and collecting dolls and dollhouses. She also enjoyed dancing, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing when she was younger.

Christina was the beloved wife of the late Francis T. “Tom” Maher, Sr., devoted mother of Christopher T. Maher of North Weymouth and his partner Evan Burks, and to the late Francis T. Maher, Jr. (and his late wife Kathleen “Kathy”). She was the loving grandmother of Patrick L. Maher and his fiancée Hailey Shaw, and the dear sister of Andrew W. Mitrusi of North Weymouth.

At the request of the family, a celebration of Christina’s life will be held this summer at her home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Christina’s memory may be made to World Vision, P.O.
