Cornelius J. Duggan, Lt., Mass. State Police, Ret., age 96

Cornelius J. Duggan, Lieutenant, Massachusetts State Police, Retired, age 96, a lifelong Quincy resident, died peacefully, Thursday, February 6, 2025 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Cornelius was born in Quincy, to the late Patrick J. and Ellen G. (Cavanagh) Duggan. Raised there, he was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1946, and later received an Associate degree in security services from Northeastern University.

He was employed as a Lieutenant in the Massachusetts State Police with twenty-one years of service. After retirement, he worked for the General Services Administration with Federal Protection Services for twenty years.

Cornelius was a proud World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

He was devoted to his family and was especially proud of his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Beloved husband for sixty-eight years of I. Patricia (Donahue) Duggan.

Devoted father of Marie Therrien of Quincy and her late husband Michael, Ellen Duggan of Quincy, Joseph P. Duggan and his wife Mary of Acton, Jean Clements and her husband Douglass of Reading, and Ann Brady and her husband David of Concord.

Loving grandfather of Breanne Starsiak and her husband Stephen of Quincy, Megan Patey and her husband Kenneth of Quincy, Kevin Therrien and his wife Amanda of Weymouth, Brendan Therrien and his wife Allison of Tewksbury, Matthew Duggan and his wife Lindsey of Ipswich, Michael Duggan and his fiancée Emily Beaudreau of N.H., Sean Duggan of East Boston, Kyle Clements of Cheverly, Md., Katelyn Cooper-Teleau and her husband Marcell of Danvers, Bridget Clements of Methuen, MaryKate Kapuza and her husband Steve of Waltham, and Hannah Brady of Waltham.

Loving great grandfather of Abigail Grace Patey, Sydney Marie Starsiak, Patrick Ernest Duggan, Cora Elizabeth Kapuza, Benjamin Michael Therrien, Ryan Michael Patey, and Lucas Robert Therrien.

The last of four siblings, he was predeceased by John Duggan, Patricia Faherty, and Eleanor Barrett.

Cornelius is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family, funeral services and interment, with military honors, were private.
