David E. Kuja, age 85

David E. Kuja, age 85, a lifelong resident of Weymouth, died peacefully, Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born in Quincy, to the late Dorothy (Keenan) and Eino A. Kujanpaa. He was raised and educated in Weymouth.

David was proud to have served in the United States Army during the late 1950s and early 1960s, serving with the 58th Quartermaster Company, Fort Lee, Va., attaining the rank of Sergeant.

David was a sheet metal worker at Wrobel Engineering Company in Avon and had been retired for many years. Prior to that, he worked as a material handler for the former Itek Corporation in Newton. He assisted his late wife, Janet, operate her business, the former Auntie’s Daycare, out of their home in South Weymouth. He also operated a catering and clambake service.

He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Xavier Council #5027. He volunteered for Bingo and served as the rental agent for many years.

David enjoyed fishing, playing poker, and watching the History Channel and Westerns. His younger years were spent at Priscilla Beach in Plymouth. In his later years, he enjoyed cruising with his family and summer vacations at New Silver Beach in Falmouth. He was known amongst neighbors and friends for feeding turkeys and birds. He loved blueberry and apple picking, as well as cooking and making piccalilli and rhubarb jam.

Above all, he was devoted to his family, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren, actively supporting their many activities and accomplishments. One of his greatest pleasures was seeing his family together for dinner every Sunday.

Beloved husband for sixty-two years, three months, and one day of Janet C. (DiBona) Kuja, who died on December 9, 2025.

Devoted father of Susan E. Noll and her husband Richard of Weymouth, the late Jacqueline M. Kuja, and the late David M. “Duf” Kuja and his surviving wife Agnieszka “Aga” of Braintree.

Loving grandfather of Emily R. Noll and her wife Brittany, Olivia R. Noll, Timothy A. Noll, Alexander M. Chong, Christopher M. Kuja, and Isabella E. Kuja.

The last of four siblings, he was the dear brother of twins Paul Kuja, Thomas Kuja, and Ellen Kuja.

He was predeceased by his in-laws, Lorraine N. Hutchins and her late husband Lawrence G. Hutchins, Sr., and Barbara L. Righini and her late husband Paul F. “Jibby” Righini, Jr.

David is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, December 28, from 2 – 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, December 29, at 11:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
