Edward F. Fortey, Boston Fire Department, Retired, age 81, of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester, died peacefully, Monday, October 20, 2025 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton, surrounded by his loving family.

Edward was born in Boston, to the late Albert H. and Eileen (Nicholson) Fortey. Raised and educated in Saint Mark’s Parish in Dorchester, he was a graduate of Boston Trade School, Class of 1964.

He lived in Quincy for forty-five years, previously in Dorchester.

Edward served in the United States Army Reserve.

Edward was proud to be a member of the Boston Fire Department. He was appointed to the department on October 30, 1974 and retired on February 28, 2009 after thirty-five years of service. He spent eight of those years assigned to the Charlestown Navy Yard. He was a member of Boston Firefighters Local 718.

Beloved husband for twenty-eight years of Jeanette M. (Lindsay) Fortey.

Devoted father of Edward F. Fortey II, and Steven F. Fortey and his fiancée Danielle.
