Francis X. McGonagle, age 95

Francis X. McGonagle, age 95, of Marshfield, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Saturday, October 18, 2025 at his daughter’s home , surrounded by his loving family.

Frank was born in Charlestown, to the late Veronica (Connolly) and Michael J. McGonagle. He was raised and educated in Boston. He lived in Marshfield for the past five years, previously in the Wollaston section of Quincy for over fifty-five years.

Frank was proud to have served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Following his military service, he was appointed to the Boston Police Department, serving as a detective in the juvenile division for fifteen years. He went on to work for the Boston Public Schools as a supervisor of attendance for over thirty years.

He practiced hypnotherapy in Quincy for many years and belonged to the National Guild of Hypnotists.

Frank was a talented piano player and had a passion for music. As a young man, he studied at the Boston Conservatory. He performed at various venues across the South Shore, and performed regularly at the former Golden Rooster in North Scituate for over ten years.

Most of all, Frank was dedicated to his family. He enjoyed supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth White McGonagle.

Devoted father of Stephen F. McGonagle and his wife Lisa of Virginia, Jane E. McGonagle of New Mexico, Amy Cincotta and her husband John of Marshfield, Sara M. Kirkpatrick and her husband Benjamin of New Mexico, and Kenneth M. McGonagle and his wife Beth of Southborough.

Loving grandfather of seven and great grandfather of one.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Wednesday, October 22, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield, on Thursday, October 23, at 11:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

    I worked at Dorchester Courthouse over 50 years ago. I remember your Dad. J remember how he loved your Mom. I remember how I could go to him and ask his advice. He was a wonderful man. I was shocked to see him on here. You must be proud.
