of Quincy
John J.P. Houghton, age 78, of Quincy, died peacefully, Monday, May 5, 2025 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
John was born in Boston, raised in East Boston, and was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, Class of 1964. He lived in Quincy for thirty-one years.
He was employed as a painter for the Forsyth Dental Institute in Cambridge for twenty years.
John was a proud Vietnam era veteran having served in the U.S. Coast Guard as an SA aboard the USCGC Duane, WPG-33, and the USCGC McCulloch, WHEC-386.
He was a member of the Robert I. Nickerson American Legion Post #382 in Quincy and a longtime active member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks #943, where he made many lasting friendships.
Beloved son of the late Henry C. and Alice M. (Murphy) Houghton.
John was the last of four siblings and was predeceased by Robert W. Houghton, Marjorie E. Cooper, and Ann-Gray Weldy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.
At the request of the family, funeral services were private.
