Joseph A. Luiso, Sr., age 93

Joseph A. Luiso, Sr., age 93, a former longtime resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Wednesday, August 13, 2025 in Framingham, comforted by his loving family.

Born in Quincy, to the late Santo and Carmela (Massaro), Joe was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1950.

Most recently residing in Framingham for the past six years, he previously lived in East Bridgewater for twelve years, and earlier raised his family in Quincy, which he was proud to call home for most of his life.

Joe served in the United States Army as a Sergeant with Company D, 223rd Infantry Regiment during the Korean conflict. He received the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, and National Defense Service Medal.

Employed as a machinist for Arch Gear Works in North Quincy for over thirty years, he later joined Stoughton Tool & Die, from which he later retired.

Joe was a former member of the Adams Heights Men’s Club and enjoyed playing bocce, and the company of his many friends at Torre Dei Passeri Social Club, both in Quincy.

Joe had a passion for gardening, and raising his prized fancy goldfish. As a young man, he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and tinkering with cars. Most of all, he was devoted to his family, especially to his seven grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored. His face lit up every time he saw them.

Beloved husband for sixty years of Rita F. (DiCicco), together they shared the love of their children, grandchildren and many friends, enjoying gatherings, events and holidays, many laughs, wine and delicious Italian food.

Devoted father of Joseph A. Luiso, Jr. and his wife Amy (Parker) of Southborough, Linda C. Lyons and her husband Michael of Sudbury, Robert W. Luiso and his wife Kristen (Fenton) of North Andover.

Loving grandfather of Kerry J. Luiso, Emma R. Luiso, and Grace M. Luiso; Samuel M. Lyons and Nathaniel J. Lyons; Camden J. Luiso and Ryder W. Luiso.

Dear brother of the late Angelina Luiso.

Joe is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Wednesday, August 20, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, at 11 a.m. Interment, with military honors, to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

  • I lived on Main Street and every time I met Joe on the street or go by his house on Union Street he would have a big smile on his face. Joe was related to my good friend Tony Viapiano and knew my family too. From our back yard I could see Joe’s yard .. My condolences to his family. He was a very nice guy.   • Joe was my neighbor for a few years. I.loved talking to him. He had a great sense of humor and.many tales to tell. He always had a smile. I miss him so.much. Garden with the angels. Joe.

  • So sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. He was such a great man. Loved talking with him and Rita. I remember Joe showing me several times his figs that he was growing out back. He always had an interesting story to tell. RIP
