Leo F. Comeau, age 91

Leo F. Comeau, age 91, a longtime resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Monday, September 1, 2025 in the comfort of his loving family.

Leo was born in Boston and had lived in Quincy for over fifty years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an Airman 1/c and received several medals, including the Korean Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Leo proudly worked on the U.S.S. Salem in Quincy for over twenty years.

Beloved husband for fifty-two years of the late Beverly J. (Clark) Comeau.

Devoted father of Sheila M. Gunther and her husband Steven of Quincy, Leo J. Comeau of Quincy, and Donna A. Sweet of Weymouth.

Loving grandfather of Beverly, Matthew, Patrick, Julie, and Rebecca.

Loving great grandfather of Colton, Chloe, Nora, twins Hannah and Sophie, and James.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Saturday, September 6, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. At the request of the family, interment services will be private.

    Our deepest sympathy for you loss.
    Leo was a wonderful person he and my dad John talked on the phone every couple months. They would talk about their health, how they both needed walkers to get around, that they could no longer get on the ship, but would still stop by and see some of the guys that were in the admission booth.
    They would talk about the Salem and what was going on there They shared many years together volunteering on the ship, my Dad took care of the archives until he couldn’t due to his health.
    It was so nice to hear them talk , and laugh about so many things.
    Leo was a true friend to my dad he will certainly be missed.

    I met LEO in the early 2000’s when visiting SALEM. LEO was simply “The SALEM” to me and many of my NEWPORT NEWS shipmates. SALEM couldn’t have a better MATE! You would have thought he was, indeed, a Swabby instead of an AireDale.
