Margaret P. (Digiacomo) Simpson, age 90, a longtime resident of Braintree, died peacefully, Monday, March 17, 2025 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born in Quincy, to the late Vincenzo and Isabella (Spataro) Digiacomo. She was raised and educated in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy High School. She lived in Braintree for the past 59 years in the house that she and her late husband, Ronald Simpson, built for their family.
Margaret began her career working as a secretary in Boston. She went on to work for the former DiMarino’s Bakery in Braintree, Lerner Shops in Quincy, Lander Jewelers, and Grossman’s. She also worked as a crossing guard with the Braintree Police Department for many years.
She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, and crocheting. Margaret was a talented cook and baker. She especially loved Christmas and was known for making the holidays special for her family. Margaret had a passion for dancing, especially with her husband in their living room. She enjoyed time spent on the water at Sunset Lake and Nantasket Beach. Most of all, she was devoted to her family, actively supporting their many activities, accomplishments, and pursuits.
Margaret was the beloved wife for 66 years of the late Ronald H. Simpson. She was also a devoted mother to Rhonda Lehan and her husband David of Plymouth, Barbara Reis and her husband Rhue of Richmond, R.I., Steven Simpson and his wife Vicky of Kauneonga Lake, N.Y., Karen Northcott and her husband Michael of Medway, Linda Liss and her husband Farrel of Hanover, and Christine Spataro Murphy of Plymouth. She was predeceased by her sons-in-law, Daniel Murphy and John Spataro.
Loving grandmother of James Lehan, Stephanie Lehan, Kristen Reis-Mauro, Lauren Walczak, Amanda Soto, Heather Brown, Kayla Stacchini, Kelly Northcott, Jennifer Northcott, Isabella Liss, Jonathan Spataro, Nicole Chelli, Daniel Murphy IV, the late Andrew Liss, and the late Michael Liss.
Margaret was also a cherished great grandmother of Ronan Spataro, Oliver Spataro, Eleanor Walczak, and Sadie Walczak.
She was a dear sister of Dominic Digiacomo of Florida and the late Peter Digiacomo. Margaret is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her lifelong friend, Faye A. Spooner.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on SUNDAY, March 23, from 2 – 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on TUESDAY, March 25, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
