Marjorie E. (Smith) Fryar, age 83, a lifelong Quincy resident, died peacefully, Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by her loving family.
Marjorie was born in Quincy, to the late Hazel (Bearse) and Harold Smith. She was raised and educated in Quincy and Weymouth.
She worked as a special education teacher’s aide in the Quincy Public Schools and spent most of her career at the Snug Harbor Elementary School in Germantown.
Marjorie enjoyed making trips to casinos, particularly Foxwoods, with her late husband, Bill.
Most of all, her passion was for her family. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.
Beloved wife of the late William H. Fryar, Jr.
Devoted mother of Michael P. Fryar, her loving caretaker in her later years, and his fiancée Katie McCarthy of Quincy, the late Sharon M. Fryar, and the late William H. Fryar III.
Loving grandmother of Meghan Alpert and her husband Sean, and Eryn McCarthy.
Cherished great grandmother of Addison and Maeve.
She was predeceased by her three brothers, Robert Smith, Ronald Smith, and Richard Smith.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, March 1, from 2 – 4 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, March 2, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
