Mary Rita (Connolly) Sullivan

Mary Rita (Connolly) Sullivan, a longtime resident of Braintree, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Sunrise of Braintree, in the comfort of her loving family.

Mary Rita was born in Boston, to the late Bartley J. and Mary M. (Walsh) Sullivan. Raised and educated in Jamaica Plain, she was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, Class of 1937. She also graduated from Bryant and Stratton School, Boston College, and Boston College Graduate School. She lived in Braintree for over sixty-five years.

She was an educator and teacher at Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree for over twenty years. Since her retirement, she enjoyed her family, travelling, and being involved with many charitable and volunteer activities, one of which, was as a longtime volunteer at Milton Hospital, where she made many friendships.

Mary Rita was a woman of great faith and a longtime parishioner of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish.

Most of all, Mary Rita was devoted to her family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Beloved wife of the late John J. Sullivan, Jr.

Devoted mother of Kevin R. Sullivan and his wife Debbie of Braintree, J. Daniel Sullivan and his wife Diane of Pembroke.

Loving grandmother of six and great grandmother of two.

Dear sister of the late John T. Connolly. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Tuesday, October 17, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree, on Wednesday, October 18, at 10:30 a.m. Interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will take place privately.
