Michael J. “Mike” Hartnett, age 85

Michael J. “Mike” Hartnett, age 85, of Quincy, died peacefully, Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born in Newcastle West, County Limerick, Ireland, to the late Catherine (Harnett) and Michael J. Hartnett. Raised and educated there, he immigrated to the United States on February 11, 1961. He lived in Quincy for thirty-four years, previously in South Boston and Randolph.

Michael was employed as a process specialist for the Gillette Company for nineteen years, retiring in 2005. Following his retirement, he returned to work as a consultant at Gillette.

Mike was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed walking. He was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren, actively supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved husband for sixty-one years of Patricia A. (Shannon) Hartnett.

Devoted father of Patricia A. Mortimer and her husband James of Quincy, Michael J. Hartnett, Jr. and his wife Janice of Ridgefield, Wash., Sheila M. Sitler and her husband Kevin of Mansfield, and Margaret M. Gresham and her husband Donnie of Pembroke.

Loving grandfather of Cara, Kevin, Annie, Ashlyn, Kellen, Owen, Kayleigh, Alexis, and Colin.

One of ten siblings, Michael was the dear brother of Theresa Fitzgerald, Nora Hanley, Rita Ryan, all of Ireland, and was predeceased by Patrick Hartnett, Helen Alexander, Kathleen Mullane, John, James, and Daniel Hartnett.

Much-loved brother-in-law of Marguerite Lynch of Pocasset, Claire Linehan of Dorchester, and Rosemary Oberton of Fla.

Mike is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Friday, November 14, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Divine Mercy Parish at Saint Mary’s Church, 95 Crescent Street, West Quincy, on Saturday, November 15, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

  • Meet Mike at Gillette the first in 1989 he was always there if you needed help and he had some stories to tell From his childhood and once in a while had some good jokes he came only once to brunch meeting we the Gillette Family will miss him
