Paul J. Boback, age 71

Paul J. Boback, age 71, of Walpole, formerly of Braintree, Quincy, and Dorchester, died peacefully, Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, in the comfort of his loving family.

Paul was born in Boston, to the late Mary L. (Butler) and Francis T. Boback, Sr. Raised in Dorchester, he was a graduate of Dorchester High School, Class of 1971, and attended the former Boston State College and later night school at Northeastern University. He lived in Walpole for the past year, previously in Braintree for forty-three years, and prior to that in Quincy and Dorchester.

He was employed as an office manager with the former energy development firm of InterGen in their Boston and Burlington offices. Prior to that, he had worked as an office manager for Putnam Investments and the law firm of Herrick & Smith in Boston.

Paul was a man of faith and longtime parishioner of the former Saint Thomas More Parish in Braintree where he served as a Eucharistic minister and lector. He was an active member and volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and had served as District President for six years with the Archdiocese of Boston’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Most recently, Paul was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth.

In 2015, Paul was honored to receive the Cheverus Award, presented by Cardinal Sean Patrick O’Malley, Archbishop Emeritus of Boston, for his dedicated service to the church.

Paul and his life partner, Ann, enjoyed many religious pilgrimages to Europe, including fifteen pilgrimages to Medjugorje, two visits to the Holy Land, and trips to Lourdes and Italy.

Devoted father of Elizabeth O’Brien Boback of Braintree, Laura Jean Martin and her husband John of Hyde Park. Paul was proud and excited for the upcoming birth of his first grandchild, a baby girl. Paul is remembered for his child-like fun and love of all the seasons, he looked forward to summers in Truro, building sandcastles and snowy winters, building snowmen with his children.

Dear brother of Linda M. Mulcahy of Quincy, Francis T. Boback, Jr. of Holbrook, Jane M. O’Brien, and her husband Paul of Braintree. Paul is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, August 28, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington Street, Weymouth, on Friday, August 29, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

  • Sending continued prayers for Paul and the family. I met Paul and Ann on our Poland pilgrimage in Summer 2022. He was a gracious , kind, and gentle soul. May the Angels lead him to Paradise.
