Philip D. Handy, age 82, of Rockland, died peacefully, Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at CareOne at Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.

Philip was born and raised in Holliston, and was the youngest of six children to the late Charles and Helen Handy.

He lived in Rockland for nine years and he previously lived in Hendersonville, N.C. with his late wife, Susanne, where he was very active in the community for many years.

Phil was proud to have served as an Airman Second Class in the United States Air Force with the 814 Combat Support Group during the early 1960s and then served in the Reserve as a Staff Sergeant for over thirty years.

Phil worked as a yard motorman for the MBTA for twenty-five years and was a member of the Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589. He had been retired for many years.

Phil was a former member of the Lions Club, both in South Attleboro and Hendersonville, N.C.

He was a lifelong model train enthusiast with a special affinity for Lionel trains.

Beloved husband of the late Susanne (Fluitt) Handy.

Philip is survived by his daughter, Jennifer L. Handy of Rockland; his son, Stephen K.E. Handy and his wife Heather Fuller; his grandchildren, Nina N. Handy and Maeve L. Handy, all of Amherst.

He was the dear brother of Nancy Handy of Foxborough, Paul Handy of Framingham, and predeceased by Richard Handy, Robert Handy, and Dottie Pearson.

Memorial Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, August 7, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Memorial Visitation prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m.
