Sungsook (Hong) Park, age 100, a former longtime resident of Hull, died peacefully, Sunday, November 12, 2023 at MelroseWakefield Hospital in Melrose.

Sungsook was born in Wonsan, North Korea, and was raised and educated there. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea.

Sungsook traveled to many countries with her late husband, Hojoon, representing South Korean diplomatic services before coming to the United States in 1962 at the age of thirty-nine, arriving in Manhattan in New York City, where Hojoon headed the Korea Trade Promotion Center and the Korean Pavilion at the 1964-65 World’s Fair (https://www.worldsfairphotos.com/nywf64/booklets/korea-groundbreaking-7-23-63.pdf). They eventually settled in Elmhurst and Jamaica Estates in Queens, where she lived for thirty years. She went on to live in Stamford, Conn. for five years before relocating to Hull, where she spent twenty years.

Sungsook and her late husband, Hojoon, were the well-known owners and operators of the former Pacific Trading Company on Broadway in Manhattan for many years.

A strong woman of faith, Sungsook was a former longtime active member of the Quincy Young Sang Korean Presbyterian Church.

She was talented at calligraphy and also enjoyed walks along the water at Nantasket Beach. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Devoted mother of Saehyang Chung, Jaehoon Park, and the late Saelan Park Pyun.

Loving grandmother of Jennifer Curran, Mia Park, and the late Evelyn Pyun.

Cherished great grandmother of Keira and Kayleigh Curran.

Sungsook is also survived by several siblings, including Dr. Sungwhee Hong and Sungchai Hong, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church, 270 Franklin Street, Quincy, on Tuesday, November 21, at 11 a.m. Reverend Soonwoo Lee, Pastor of the Quincy Young Sang Korean Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation at the church prior to the service from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, New York, will take place privately at a later date.
