Thomas was born in Cave, Caherlistrane, County Galway, Ireland, to the late Patrick and Margaret (Higgins) Donnellan. Raised and educated there, he immigrated to the United States on August 15, 1959 at the age of twenty-six, settling in Dorchester. He lived in Quincy for the past thirty-two years.

Tom was a proud member of Teamsters Local 25, employed as a dock worker for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company. For the next fifteen years, he worked at Shields Health.

Tom’s life overflowed with friends. He loved walking at Castle Island in South Boston, a spot he cherished and insisted on sharing with every out-of-town visitor. He was also an avid reader, but had a passion for keeping up with current events.

Most of all, he was devoted to his family, both here and abroad in Ireland and England.

Beloved husband of the late Nuala (Hussey) Donnellan.

Devoted father of Karen Donnellan and her husband Carl Potts, Maureen Donnellan, all of Quincy, Brian Donnellan and his wife Catherine of Middleton, Kathleen Wright and her husband Matt of Littleton, and the late Robert Donnellan and his surviving wife Cindy of Weymouth.

Loving grandfather of Molly, Katie, Thomas, Nicholas, Maggie, Sophia, Theresa, Sarah, and Colin.

The last of nine siblings, he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Memorial Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, January 18, from 2 – 5 p.m. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Mark’s Church, 1725 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, on Monday, January 19, at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow.
