Thomas M. Maloney, Jr., age 75, a lifelong resident of Quincy, passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in the comfort of his loving family.
Thomas was the beloved husband for thirty-six years to the late Marie A. (Prendeville) Maloney. Together they raised three loving children, Thomas M. Maloney III (Christina) of Quincy, Therese (Kole) of Franklin, and Patrick (Lindsey) of Quincy. Doting Papa to Thomas L. Maloney, Marie G. “Maisie” Maloney, and Benjamin W. Maloney, with the anticipation and excitement of two more grandchildren on the way. He was the loving son to the late Alice (Cassidy) and Thomas M. Maloney, Sr. One of seven siblings, Tom was the dear brother of Francis C. Maloney (Donna Ciampoli) and Joseph P. Maloney, all of Quincy. He was predeceased by Alice P. “Lisa” Maloney, Richard G. Maloney, Mary Maloney, and Adele Maloney. Dear brother-in-law of Lawrence J. Prendeville and his wife Carol of Quincy, Loretta N. Prendeville of Quincy, and the late Eileen P. Prendeville. Tom is also survived by several nieces, nephews, many cousins, and friends.
He was a graduate of St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Class of 1969, and later graduated from Suffolk University. He was a co-owner and operator of his family’s sixty-year-old business, Maloney Seafood Corporation, in Quincy. Tom dutifully served as its president for the past forty years and was a well-respected steward of the industry. He was a strong proponent of volunteer work and community service, utilizing his experience and business skills to become more active in community affairs in the city he loved. Tom served for many years as a board member for Maria Droste Counseling Services in Quincy as well as the boards of Quincy Youth Hockey and Quincy Youth Arena.
He enjoyed summers in West Yarmouth, and was an avid baseball fan. Tom enjoyed spending time with his close circle of friends – maintaining friendships formed in childhood to the ones made later in life. These friendships brought him immense joy, especially during the last several years. Above all, Tom was devoted to his family, especially his cherished grandchildren, supporting and celebrating all their many activities and accomplishments.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, March 19, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Divine Mercy Parish at Saint Ann’s Church, 757 Hancock Street, Quincy, on Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
