Alfonso Barrero, age 95

Alfonso Barrero, age 95, of Avon, formerly of Randolph, died peacefully, Thursday, August 15, 2024 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Alfonso was born in Girardot, Colombia, to the late Maximino Diaz and Enriqueta Barrero. He was raised and educated there. Alfonso immigrated to the United States in 1959 at the age of thirty, settling in Miami, Fla., before moving to Boston the following year. In 1972, he moved to Randolph, where he lived for over forty-five years. He lived in Avon for the past four years.

Alfonso was the owner and operator of the former A&B Jewelers in Jamaica Plain for twenty years. He also worked as a truant officer for the Boston Public Schools for ten years. He had been retired for many years.

Alfonso was an avid traveler.

Beloved husband for sixty-three years of Teresa (Rodriguez) Barrero.

Devoted father of Mack Barrero and Sandra Pearson.

Loving grandfather of Ronald Murray, Parris Hearn, Brent Hearn III, Olivia Hearn, and Isabel Genco.

Alfonso was the last of five siblings and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family, funeral services were private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alfonso’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

  • My second father, I always referred to him as “Big Al” and I meant it with absolute respect. He was truly one of a kind. An outsized personality : a man of strength, humor, and great passions. Most of all, he exemplified the ideal that life should be lived to the fullest. He will be missed but always remembered.
