Barbara D. McGregor, age 84

Barbara D. (Walsh) McGregor, age 84, of Lynnfield, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in the comfort of her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born in Boston, to the late Thomas J. and Mildred E. (Lucey) Walsh. Raised and educated in South Boston, she was a graduate of the former Gate of Heaven High School. Barbara and her family endured tragedy early on with the loss of their father when Barbara was just the young age of thirteen. She and her siblings were brought up under the tireless effort of their mother Mildred in the South Boston neighborhoods where she never lost her love for. If you’ve ever shared a ride through Southie with Barbara you would hear the small tidbits lost in history that only a person with her life experience could share. She would often comment that South Boston was her home and she would never live far.

True to her word, Barbara married James R McGregor III and settled just over the Neponset bridge in Quincy. She raised her seven children in the family filled neighborhood of Beechwood Knoll, Wollaston. Barbara passed her love of sports to her children, spending countless hours at hockey rinks, gymnasiums, athletic fields and gymnastics venues. She was tireless in her efforts with all her children’s activities and had unparalleled patience. She lived in a space where seemingly seven was not enough. There were always friends of her children playing out front, out back in the pool, and in the basement where future rock stars played at full volume. Barbara worked hard and fought hard to give her children all that she had to give.

As the kids grew older Barbara decided to embark on a working career. She first worked for the family elevator company her husband had started. She then moved on to a part-time position as a sales associate with Rogers Jewelry store in Quincy center. Later after parting ways with James, she moved into a full-time role at the Stop and Shop corporate offices as an advertising associate where she stayed until she retired.

As the mother of seven busy children, she managed to carve out time to enjoy her Boston sports teams. In the warm summer nights, the Red Sox games could be heard from the television throughout the rooms of her Sims Road home. In the winter, she lamented the days between her beloved Bruins games, and on game nights it was impossible not to hear her passion for the Big Bad Bruins. Barbara didn’t just watch sports she became an avid and accomplished bowler. She competed in competitive leagues and traveled to tournaments throughout the Northeast. It was here where she met a new partner, John “Jack” Adamchek. They enjoyed their time together in Weymouth. With Jack, Barbara began to travel with friends and family. She enjoyed seeing countries throughout Europe including Finland, Ireland, Portugal as well as a trip to Russia. Barbara cherished her time traveling to Nova Scotia with her sisters researching their Native American ancestry.
