Bernice M. DePietro, age 88

Bernice M. (Callahan) DePietro, age 88, of Quincy, a devoted woman of faith, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her beloved husband, James DePietro, with whom she shared sixty-eight years together. Loving mother of Lee DePietro of Quincy, Lori O’Brien and her husband Paul of Westwood, Lillian Sitcawich and her husband Ron of West Roxbury, Donna Niosi of Quincy and her late husband Peter, James DePietro and his wife Carlotta of Westwood, Bernice Alers and her husband Jeff of Franklin, and the late Artie John DePietro. Bernice was a devoted grandmother to twelve, and the blessed great-grammie to one.

Born in Charlestown on January 27, 1937 and raised in Somerville, Bernice was the daughter of the late John and Lillian Callahan. Sister of Barbara Passalacqua, Lillian Burke, Arthur Callahan, and the late Jack Callahan. Bernice was an avid reader and had a lifelong love of dance. For many years Bernice taught CCD classes and was a Eucharistic Minister at her local church, Holy Trinity Parish. Alongside her husband Jim, Bernice raised her family in Quincy, and throughout their lives they enjoyed so many happy memories. Their house was always filled with their children and grandchildren celebrating birthdays and milestones, pool days and holidays, especially Christmas day – the most important holiday to the family. Bernice was extremely grateful to God for all the blessings He bestowed upon her, and she truly cherished family time together and all the tender moments in between.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Monday, March 31, from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Parish in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 227 Sea Street, Quincy, on Tuesday, April 1, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 LaGrange Street, West Roxbury.
