Brenda J. Chin, age 84

Brenda J. (Rines) Chin, age 84, a longtime resident of Quincy, died suddenly, Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at home.

Brenda was born in Boston, to the late Howard N. and Levona A. (Lord) Rines. Raised and educated in Brookline, she was a graduate of Brookline High School. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Boston University. She lived in Quincy for over fifty years.

Brenda made an impact on many young lives over the years through her work as a Boston Zookeeper, Director of Religious Education of the United First Parish Church of Quincy, a Camp Fire Leader, and as an elementary school teacher in the Quincy Public Schools, teaching English as a Second Language at the Wollaston Elementary School. She had been retired for many years.

Brenda was an avid reader, especially mysteries. An animal lover, she loved taking care of her dogs over the years, especially her beloved Sammy. She was also a loyal supporter of the Audubon Society and enjoyed birdwatching. Most of all, she was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, actively supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

Devoted mother of Darren R. Chin of Quincy, Eric S. Chin and his wife Heather of Hanover, Rebecca D. Chin and her husband Steve Austin, and Valerie J. Chin and her husband Darryl DuPont, all of Braintree

Loving “Gammy” of Tyler and Dylan; Audrey, Charlotte, and Henry; Sophia, Alex, and Emmie.

Dear sister of the late Robert H. Rines.

Brenda is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, June 29, from 2 – 5 p.m. Services will conclude with a Remembrance beginning at 4:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

  • To Brenda’s Family, I had the lovely Pleasure of Meeting your Mom, from Being Married to Brian, she was an incredible woman who I was extremely fond of, we talked many times, and she always told me the scoop, (better than a newspaper) she will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her I’m sure.
